Our Hudson River Charters take place in the month of May and fish between Saugerties and Poughkeepsie, just outside of Kingston, NY. We dock for the month between the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge and Esopus Flats, which are some of the most prime spawning grounds on the entire Hudson River.   The Hudson River trustees are currently in the Injury Assessment/Restoration Planning phase of the Hudson River damage assessment. This phase can take many years. Restoration Implementation can begin after the case is resolved and funds for restoration work are available to .

The entire dredging project targets the removal of about , pounds of PCBs that EPA scientists know are situated in the river in a way that is having a toxic impact on fish. They know because they have studied more t sediment samples taken in a polka dot pattern across the 40 miles.

The presence of high concentrations of PCBs in Hudson River fish has led New York State officials to close various recreational and commercial fisheries and to issue advisories restricting the consumption of fish taken from the Hudson River. Since , the general population has been advised to eat no fish taken .

Hudson River PCBs Site Baseline Monitoring Program Book 1 of 2 Prepared for: General Electric Company Corporate Environmental Programs Albany, NY Prepared by: Quantitative Environmental Analysis, LLC Montvale, NJ In Conjunction with: Environmental Standards, Inc.

Valley Forge, PA Job Number GENbmp Fish Monitoring: Fish monitoring will continue to be performed during the OM&M program to assess PCB concentration levels within various fish species throughout the Upper and Lower Hudson River.

Fish samples will be collected at various locations throughout the Upper and Lower Hudson River for the foreseeable future.

Analysis of Fall Fish Data Collected Under the Baseline and Remedial Action Monitoring Programs of the Hudson River PCBs Superfund Site from through (PDF) ( KB).

This report analyzes fish collected in the fall period during each of five years prior to dredging PCBs from the Hudson River inand compares their contaminant. After USEPA's Record of Decision (ROD) (USEPA, ), extensive remedial design sediment sampling revealed that concentrations of PCBs in surface sediments were higher and more widespread than the models had predicted (Field et al.,USEPA,USEPA, ).Additionally, USEPA observed that PCB loads from the Upper Hudson River (UHR) to the Lower Hudson River Cited by: 5.

Between andGeneral Electric polluted the Hudson River by discharging polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), causing a range of harmful effects to wildlife and people who eat fish from the river or drink the water. Other kinds of pollution, including mercury contamination and cities discharging untreated sewage, have also caused problems in the river.

The General Electric Co. dumped PCBs, or polychlorinated biphenyls, into the river for decades. They dredged out some of the pollutants, but GE, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the DEC. effort for the Hudson River PCBs site Reassessment has been designed to predict future levels of PCBs in Upper Hudson River sediment, water and fish.

This report provides predictions under baseline conditions, that is, without remediation of PCB-contaminated sediment in the Upper. Abstract: As part of its activities for the Hudson River PCBs Superfund Site, General Electric Company determined PCB levels in fish collected for five years preceding the initiation of dredging and during the first year of dredging to remove PCBs in OF TIME, PCBs AND THE FISH OF THE HUDSON RIVER by Ronald J.

From the s to s General Electric’s manufacturing facilities in Fort Edward and Hudson Falls dumped million pounds of PCBs into the river. High levels of PCBs in fish. The Hudson River PCBs site is the miles ( km) of river from Hudson Falls to the Battery in New York City.

As defined in the ERA, the Upper Hudson River is the 40 mile (64 km) stretch from Hudson Falls to the Federal Dam at Troy. Fish in the Hudson River are at risk from exposure to PCBs; fish that eat other fish (i.e., which are.

1 Abstract:Long term monitoring of PCBs in fish from the Hudson River has occurred since and the temporal trends from specific locations (river reaches) have been widely reported.

GE’s PCBs are now found in sediment, water and wildlife throughout the Hudson River ecosystem as far south as the New York Harbor. They are also found in people. Onafter decades of debate, advocacy and negotiations, GE began Phase 1 of the long-delayed clean-up of those PCBs.

Studies have documented high levels of PCBs in Hudson River fish. Some adverse effects of PCBs on fish include impaired reproductive, endocrine, and immune system function, increased lesions and tumors, and death. However, very few studies have assessed whether the PCB contamination in the Hudson River is harming Hudson River fish.

Greenberg, Ph.D. U.S. EPA OSWER-OSRTI Environmental Response Team Edison, NJ @ Community Advisory Group (CAG) Meeting Hudson River PCBs Superfund Site Schuylerville, NY, 21 July The Hudson River PCBs site includes the approximately mile stretch of the Hudson River from Hudson Falls to the Battery in New York City.

The Upper Hudson River, an approximately mile reach of the river from Hudson Falls to Troy, in Washington, Saratoga and Rensselaer Counties, is the reach that has been selected for remediation.

The. This is somewhat puzzling in this edition in view of the preface that he wrote inten years after the first publication of the book that (he) does not "eat any waterfowls taken from the Hudson River south of Hudson Falls because of likely contamination by PCB's or other chemicals." That part is explained in the Epilogue, Reviews: 6.

Final Second Five-Year Review Report for the Hudson River PCBs Superfund Site April Table Summary of Changes to Outreach Techniques Used by NYSDOH Hudson River Fish Advisory Outreach Project and Partners Since Outreach is informed by additional information that was gathered through surveys of anglers and those who consume fish.

Some people are concerned about whether the dredging project will affect their public drinking water or increase their exposure to PCBs. Inthe New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) collected PCB samples at nine public drinking water supplies along the Hudson River to provide information about PCB levels before dredging.; Inthe NYSDOH compared samples taken.

Dredging should impact all PCB-affected areas By Letters to the editor on Janu at AM The results are in from studies looking at the levels of PCBs in fish .SinceDEC’s monitoring program has regularly measured PCB levels in fish from the Hudson River. Elevated PCB levels were found in collections of many fish species during the s, with the highest concentration of 1, ppm found in a goldfish from the Stillwater Pool in (NYSDEC, ).
